Abstract:
Since 2017 Reiki has been incorporated into the Unified Health System, in the three levels of health care, as an integrative and complementary practice. Its use can have a positive impact on the vital functions and psycho physiological activity of the human, especially those who are weakened by some health problem.

So, this chapter aims to reflect about the application of Reiki in nursing care to newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The neonatal period is the stage of life since birth from the 28th day after birth, being permeated by anatomical, physiological, psychological, spiritual and social transformations.
When, for some reason, this newborn does not adapt to the extra uterine environment and needs care in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the use of practices such as Reiki can contribute to the restoration of your health.

In addition, the use of this care approach can help alleviate the many stressfull factors by which the newborn is exposed in this type of environment.
So, a sensitive care, attentive, empathic, and welcoming, allied to technology, is fundamental for the normality parameters of neonates to be stabilized based on respect for their singularities and particularities.
In this context, besides being a complementary therapy without restrictions, Reiki presents low cost and is easily accessible, and can be configured as an important ally in the promotion of the health of newborns, expanding the diversity of daily care to the sensitive needs, of affection, warmth and reassurance of these beings.

Therefore, the use of Reiki as a strategy of care in a Neonatal Unit consists of a measure whose potential should be valued and apprehended as feasible when envisioning attention to individuals for whom the feeling of well-being is imbued with subjectivities inherent to the development of a newborn.
